The 48 members of the Waldo-Brookside Rotary Club (WBRC) have lived up to the Rotary motto of “People of Action” and have donated $13,135 to the Ukraine Relief Efforts. This is their largest donation ever.
On March 16th WBRC President-Elect Jenna Nelson brought forth to the board a desire to assist the Rotary Club Budapest – Central in Budapest, Hungary. They are providing aid and support to Ukrainian refugees. Current WBRC President Paige Fowler agreed, and after some discussion it was determined that the board would donate $5,000 split between the Rotary Club Budapest – Central and the Rotary Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund.
An anonymous club member matched that $5,000 donation and the WBRC Foundation donated another $1,000. The WBRC also donated the Happy Bucks from their meeting on March 23, 2022. Those Happy Bucks raised an additional $2,035 for a total of $13,035. Additional donations have been made privately by members of the club.
Those funds were distributed on March 28th, were received by Rotary Club Budapest – Central on March 30th, and will be put to work immediately by those on the ground.
WBRC President Paige Fowler said “I love our club and our members. They came forward with some big ideas and we executed them quickly. In two weeks, we made the decision to help and distributed the largest donation in our club’s history. The situation in Ukraine is unprecedented in our lifetime and I am proud that we could assist those in need.”
