While each year of this service project is great, our 23rd year will be special. Rotary District 6040 will be joined by District 6060 and District 6080 in this year’s collection, and I am extremely excited about this development. Our District 6040 Governor, Randy Steinman, has encouraged the Rotary Clubs throughout the great state of Missouri to join the Shoes for Orphan Souls efforts. District 6060 Governor Valerie Sorensen, and District 6080 Governor Jimmy Standfast, are joining Randy to spread the word as we hope to collect 50,000 pairs of shoes across the state of Missouri this year.
I know I can count on each of your Rotary Clubs to participate at meaningful levels again this year. I must say that District 6060 has begun a “Let’s Bury Larry (in shoes)” campaign…and from what I have seen on social media, they are off to a great start.
In April 2024, we will again do our Shoes Caravan, and on the weekend of April 19-21, 2024 our efforts will culminate alongside the efforts across the state of Missouri at a Joint District Conference at the Margaritaville Resort at the Lake of the Oaarks!
With it being Back to School Season, it is a perfect time to secure the current deals at your local retail stores, and I encourage you to do so. Let’s make our Shoes collection efforts this year a year-round effort!
I was privileged to recently speak at the Trenton Rotary Club about the Shoes project, and it certainly raised my excitement levels once again for Shoes for Orphan Souls.
