By Fred Hahn - In 2004, the Council on Legislation directed the Rotary Board and Administrative Staff to review Rotary’s Strategic Plan every three years.

The 2010 edition describes Rotary as “A worldwide network of inspired individuals who translate their passions into relevant social causes to change lives in communities.”

TRF is at the mid-point of a three year Pilot Project involving 100 of Rotary’s 532 Districts. The Pilot is an effort to more effectively and efficiently utilize the resources available to the Foundation in accomplishing its Mission. This is described under TRF’s Future Vision Plan.

Under this Plan, the TRF’s number one priority continues to be the Eradicating of Polio in the entire world.

In order to better compartmentalize the Foundations work, six major Areas of Focus were identified. These areas are:

1)    Peace and conflict prevention/resolution

2)    Disease Prevention and Treatment

3)    Water and Sanitation

4)    Maternal and Child health

5)    Basic Education and Literacy and

6)    Economic and Community Development

Beneath each of these areas of foci, there are many projects and goals.

Each year, during the month of March, the importance of Literacy is emphasized throughout the Rotary World.

It is all together fitting that one of Rotary District 6040’s major projects is partnering with and the support of Friends United’s basic education and literacy program in Honduras. This program is unique in that it covers a broad expanse of Honduras by better educating the elementary teachers in a growing number of communities in that country.

Our Rotary Clubs both here and in Honduras have been instrumental in assisting this effort. This is being done through support in procuring Resource Rooms and furnishing supplies for the Rooms. The teachers come to the Resource Rooms for both seminars and the acquiring of teaching materials.
