There's no doubt many of our traditional District Club Fundraising events have been affected these past 6 months.
Our challenge is how can we come up with creative ways to make up for some of our cancelled events. The need for all the good the funds raised from our fundraisers do locally and internationally, hasn't changed. In fact, with Covid, the needs across the world are even greater. I heard a great phase on a call last week - The World NEEDS Rotary and Rotary NEEDS YOU! How true.
It would be valuable if you could send me an email with some ways your Club is being creative with new fundraising ideas or different ways to manage old ones in the midst of Covid. I would like to put together a list and share it with the all the District Clubs. So that we may stimulate each other to develop some new plans to raise money this year for local giving and scholarships as well as the Annual Fund and Polio.
Please send me your fundraising ideas to share. Thanks for all you are doing to look for creative ways to do our service and fundraising this year in your Club.
The Rotary Club of Eastern Independence participated in the Kimbrough Challenge District Grant Challenge for the 2019/20 Rotary Year. The Club project was to assist Mother’s Refuge in upgrading their computer and I.T. capabilities to better support their pregnant and teen mother clients. Mother’s Refuge is a local non-profit organization with a much needed humanitarian mission – “Our mission is to shelter and educate homeless, pregnant and parenting young women by providing comprehensive services that empower them to make successful life decisions for themselves and their babies.”
On Sunday, September 20, at 1:00 PM, Weston Rotary members, members of the Weston Park Board, City of Weston officials, Rotary District 6040 Governor Don Gladhart, and Weston Chamber had a ribbon cutting to conclude the $14,000 grant obligation from Weston Rotary and Rotary Foundation.
This grant undertaking was to advance Holladay Park, located in the center of the business district of downtown Weston, into a more children friendly park. Improvements were made to improve the park's ability to accommodate a wider range of children age wise and need wise.
The Andrew County Rotary Club is hosting a Disc Golf Tournament on October 17th in Savannah as a fundraiser. Proceeds from the event will support Andrew County Rotary Club projects and activities such as a cold storage expansion at a local food pantry, coat purchases for children in need, Polio eradication efforts, and Shoes for Orphan Souls purchases. There is a competitive and a recreational round available. This is a fun sport for all ages to play!
The Rotary Club of Independence (RCI), under the leadership of President Cindy Isabel, completed its 2019-2020 Kimbrough Challenge District Grant Project at the end of August 2020. RCI’s renovated an existing 15,500 sq ft structure to meet the growing needs of the Peace Pathways’ Peace Pavilion. The Peace Pavilion has been promoting and educating adults and children about peace and conflict resolution for the past 23 years. The current Peace Pavilion operates in 2,400 sq ft area. Thousands of youth groups, schoolchildren, families and individual visitors pass through the Peace Pavilion every year.

Weston Rotary Club has adopted the Weston Food Pantry and is now in charge of "food for the needy" and helping administer the USDA food program which started earlier this year at West Platte R-II School District as the Rotary Club assisted West Platte personnel. For the final two weeks of this program the distribution was moved to an outside location as West Platte opened for school this week and traffic demands were better addressed off of the school sight.
