We are sad to share the passing of John Duffey, KC South Club, on August 22.  Many District members worked with John over the years thanks to his efforts for the hospital in the Dominican Republic.

Our goal this year is to have Our clubs collect 25,000 pairs of shoes.  We will ask our partner in Dallas, Buckner International, to find a corporate match of another 25,000 pairs of shoes.  To collect 50,000 pairs of shoes in our 25th anniversary year. Make sure your club as a Shoe Cheerleader and plans to help us reach our goal.

World Polio Day

According to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, as of August 21, 2025, there are 13 cases of Wild Poliovirus Type 1, all in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and 49 cases of Circulating Vaccine-Derived Poliovirus in 10 countries. Since 1988, vaccination programs have eliminated 99% of polio worldwide, but we still have work to do. World Polio Day World Polio Day is October 24th and District Governor Jodi Sundaram and I would like to encourage each Club to organize an activity to raise funds for Polio Plus.

Rotary Area of Focus: Economic and Community Development

Nearly 1.4 billion employed people live on less than $1.25 a day. Our members promote economic and community development and reduce poverty in underserved communities through training, well-paying jobs, and access to financial management institutions. Projects range from providing people with equipment to vocational training. Our members work to strengthen local entrepreneurs and community leaders, particularly women, in impoverished communities.

September Report – 5 Clubs Visited

We are three months into our new Rotary year, and I continue to be amazed by the great things all of our clubs are doing within their communities—sharing the message of Serving Together and Uniting for Good.

Here’s a quick update of what’s happening in our District and what we’re preparing for in the coming months.


 World Polio Day is 24 October

District 6040 will recognize World Polio Day during the week of October 20th. End Polio Now billboard signage will be displayed at the S/I-35 & exit 234 and S/I-35 & Roe locations, and on Friday, October 24th, the Downtown KC Marriott will be illuminated with the End Polio Now logo.
